We are delighted to announce the election of Margaret “Peggy” Shupnik as new Chairperson of the ISE

The ISE General Council Meeting held on 7th May 2012 at ICE/ECE 2012 the joint 15th International Congress of Endocrinology and 14th European Congress of Endocrinology in Florence saw the election of a New Chairperson for the ISE Executive Committee.

Professor Paul Stewart, Secretary Treasurer of the ISE would like to formally thank the outgoing Chairperson Felipe Casanueva and offer a warm welcome to Margaret Shupnik, the first new chairperson under the revised statutes.

Professor Stewart said: “Following a time of significant restructuring for ISE Peggy, an ex President of the US Endocrine Society and an outstanding scientist in the field, will be influential in delivering the mission of the ISE and helping to co-ordinate the International strategies of our large National Society members/ Endocrine Federations. I am very excited by her appointment.”

Since its foundation in 1960, the International Society of Endocrinology (ISE) has fostered the global advancement of research, education and patient care in endocrinology.

Today the society forms a strategic network of National Endocrine Societies which aims to stimulate international co-operation and co-ordinate scientific exchange, debate and dissemination between endocrinologists and associated scientific professionals around the world. Developing endocrinology in emerging nations is one of its main remits. Current membership comprises over 70 national endocrinology societies, representing nearly 50,000 endocrinologists worldwide.

The flagship of the ISE remains its International Congress which is now held on a two-year rotation rather than the previous 4 yearly stand alone meeting, in partnership with one of our National Societies across the Americas, Europe and Africa and Asia/Oceania. The Florence meeting in partnership with the European Society of Endocrinology was a huge success with over 5500 attendees – the largest Endocrine meeting ever on European soil. The next ICE meeting will be held in Chicago on 21-24th June 2014 in partnership with the US Endocrine Society and then in Beijing 31st Aug-4th Sep 2016 with the Chinese Endocrine Society.
